November 20, 2018
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November here in the United States. Thanksgiving has historical roots in religious and cultural traditions which began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest.
From the time of our founding fathers until the time of President Lincoln, the date varied from state to state. Lincoln made a presidential proclamation in all states in 1863 recognizing the final Thursday in November as the customary date but on October 31, 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a presidential proclamation changing the national Thanksgiving Day from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday in November, due to business reasons.
Across America, this Thursday, families we will gather round their tables giving thanks for a bountiful harvest of blessings bestowed upon us from God above. We at Heron Bay offer warm wishes to you and yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
